Dr. Debi Crimmins, Opening Speaker
As a former Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida, Debi Crimmins has supervised and coordinated the district’s secondary language arts department, blended learning models, intervention implementation, curriculum and instruction vertical mapping, state assessment analysis, school turnaround reform, and professional development services for all elementary, middle, and high schools.
Principal Baruti Kafele, Keynote Speaker
One of the most sought-after educational speakers in America, Principal Kafele is impacting America’s schools! He has delivered over two thousand conference and program keynotes, professional development workshops, parenting seminars and student assemblies over his 32 years of public speaking. An expert in the area of “attitude transformation,” Principal Kafele is the leading authority for providing effective classroom and school leadership strategies toward closing what he coined, the “Attitude Gap.”
Mr. Marshall Ramsey, Closing Speaker
Marshall Ramsey is a two-time Pulitzer Finalist (2002 and 2006). His editorial cartoons are nationally syndicated by Creators Syndicate and have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today and The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger. He is the author of several successful books including three cartoon collections, two short story collections (Fried Chicken and Wine, and Chainsaws and Casseroles) and the delightful children’s book Banjo’s Dream. Ramsey’s cartoons, photos, stories and posts are frequently shared on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. He’s also the host of the weekly statewide radio program, Now You’re Talking with Marshall Ramsey and the television program Conversations on Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
N. R. Burger Middle School has cultivated a tradition of partnering with community groups to strengthen the focus on academic proficiency and social responsibility. Most recently, the school formed “Power Partners” to help boost performance in school-wide attendance and student behavior. Many partners also are members of N. R. Burger’s P-16 Family and Community Council, which has helped engage more stakeholders in the mission of educating students to become academically proficient and socially responsible. With the “Power Partners” partnership, the community has truly embraced the philosophy of “it takes village” to prepare students to succeed in a dynamic, global society.
